Training to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor at Go Pro Caribbean costs $2,250 if you are already a Divemaster and $4,350 if you have never dived. PADI's own fees are paid to PADI on top — $1,212 for a certified Divemaster and $1,380 from any lower level — so the total with only the required fees runs from $3,462 to $5,730.
Two further PADI applications are optional: Enriched Air Nitrox and Oxygen Provider Specialty Instructor, at $96 each. The training for both is included in the IDC at no charge, and neither rating is required to qualify as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. The pathway totals further down include both, which adds $192.

Accommodation — a four to seven minute walk from the dive centre
The Go Pro Caribbean house takes both Divemaster and IDC candidates, and the rates below are the IDC rates. A private room is $5 a night — half the $10 Divemaster rate — and the IDC rate applies to your whole stay, not only the IDC part of it. The two-bedroom apartment is for IDC candidates only, at $10 per room per night.

MSDT Preparation — $325
MSDT Preparation adds three further PADI Specialty Instructor certifications of your choice, over 2 to 3 days after the Instructor Examination. With the Enriched Air Nitrox and Oxygen Provider ratings from your IDC, that makes the five that Master Scuba Diver Trainer requires. All five are applied for on one form at the price of four: $384, which certifies what the programme adds and takes the place of the two optional applications. Popular choices are Night Diver, Navigation, Fish Identification, and Search and Recovery. The MSDT rating itself follows once you have issued 25 PADI certifications, and its $123 application is paid then. Each pathway below shows its own MSDT-ready total.

The Instructor Development Course and EFR Instructor training at Go Pro Caribbean is $1,650, with IDC materials at $600. For a certified PADI Divemaster the training price is $2,250. Pathways from lower certification levels run from $3,300 for a Rescue Diver to $4,350 with no previous diving experience. Can I do a PADI IDC in Roatan with no prior diving experience?
Yes. The complete beginner pathway is built for it, priced at $4,350 for training over a recommended 10 to 12 weeks. One PADI requirement governs the timing: an entry-level certification must be held for at least six months before the IDC can begin, and it cannot be waived. The recommended approach is to obtain the Open Water certification close to home, three to four months before the trip, so that six months have passed by the IDC start date. The alternative is two trips to Roatan, spaced so that the same is true. Progression through Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver and Divemaster takes long enough that the requirement is satisfied by the time the IDC starts, and the visit fits inside a single 90-day tourist visa.
How long does a PADI IDC take in Roatan?
The IDC runs 12 days from 09:00 to 17:00, followed by a two-day Instructor Examination. Total time in Roatan depends on the entry certification, and each figure is a recommendation rather than a floor: 3 to 4 weeks for a certified Divemaster, 6 to 10 weeks from Rescue Diver, 7 to 9 weeks from Advanced Open Water, 8 to 10 weeks from Open Water, and 10 to 12 weeks from no previous experience. The optional MSDT Preparation Programme adds 2 to 3 days. If you need to finish sooner than these figures suggest, ask Will Welbourn before you book and he will tell you honestly what is workable.
What accommodation is available during the PADI IDC in Roatan?
Candidates stay in the Go Pro Caribbean house, a four to seven minute walk from the dive centre and West End. The house takes both Divemaster and IDC candidates, and IDC candidates pay the lower rates. A private room with private bathroom and shared kitchen is $5 per night, across eight rooms. A two-bedroom apartment with shared kitchen and bathroom, for a maximum of two people, is $10 per room per night and is for IDC candidates only. Air conditioning is $10 per night on either. Both include WiFi, drinking water, a washing machine and a swimming pool. A $300 non-refundable advance payment secures a room and is set against the balance. What is the PADI IDC pass rate at Go Pro Caribbean?
Go Pro Caribbean has a 100% IE pass rate: in the last ten years, every candidate who has completed the IDC at Go Pro Caribbean has passed the PADI Instructor Examination. For candidates who completed both Divemaster training and the IDC here, the record runs further back — every one has passed at the first attempt, without exception, since Will Welbourn qualified as a Course Director in 2008. More than 500 PADI Instructors have been certified in that period, and graduates are regularly recruited by dive centres during the peak season from January to August.
What is included in the Go Pro Caribbean PADI IDC price?
The $1,650 fee covers the full Instructor Development Course, EFR Instructor training, and Enriched Air Nitrox and Oxygen Provider Specialty Instructor training. IDC materials are $600. Rental equipment is free throughout every training phase; a personal dive computer, SMB and finger reel are required. PADI fees are separate because they are paid directly to PADI and are the same wherever a candidate trains. For a certified Divemaster the required fees are $1,212, being the Instructor Examination at $825, the Instructor application at $235, and the EFR Instructor application at $152. Pathways entering below Divemaster add the $168 Divemaster application, giving $1,380. The Enriched Air Nitrox and Oxygen Provider Specialty Instructor applications are $96 each and are optional. Neither rating is required to qualify as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, and the training for both is included at no charge.
What is the MSDT Preparation Programme at Go Pro Caribbean?
The IDC already certifies candidates as Enriched Air Nitrox and Oxygen Provider Specialty Instructors, two of the five specialties required for Master Scuba Diver Trainer, although neither application is compulsory. The MSDT Preparation Programme is $325 and adds three further Specialty Instructor certifications of choice over 2 to 3 days. Popular choices are Night Diver, Navigation, Fish Identification, and Search and Recovery. PADI Specialty Instructor applications are $96 each. All five are then applied for on a single form at the price of four: $384 certifies the three from MSDT Preparation together with the Nitrox and Oxygen Provider ratings earned during the IDC. The MSDT application itself is $123 and becomes payable only when applying for the rating, after 25 PADI certifications have been issued.
